CAT Experience 2011-12

Prometric conducted CAT 2011-12. It was computer adaptive test that constituted 60 multiple choice questions. There were two sections having 30 questions each. First section was Quantitative ability and data interpretation and the second section was verbal ability and logical reasoning. Total duration of the test was 2 hours 40 minutes (70 minutes each section).

Talking about first section, it was of moderate difficulty. Quant questions were little tricky and easy, however the DI questions were bit tough. The quant questions were mainly from these topics:

  1. Circle: Question related to tangent to a circle, square inside circle and circle inside square.
  2. Rhombus: Finding area of rhombus
  3. Log: Finding the value of base(x) from a logarithmic equation.
  4. Geometric progression: Finding value of n, when sum was given
  5. Finding angle in a triangle
  6. Profit/loss : Successive profits/loss problems

The DI questions were from following topics:

  1. Percentages  

In the second Section, among Verbal ability and logical reasoning, logical reasoning was relatively easy and verbal ability questions were tough. Questions were mainly from following topics:


Verbal ability:

  1. 2 Passages 
  2. 2 Jumbled word
  3. Fill in the blanks: Two fill ups were given that were supposed to be filled from one of the pair of words from the options.  

Logical Reasoning:

  1. Queue problems.
  2. Simple calculation based: Finding difference between max and min marks, where weight corresponding to questions were given.
